Easy Method To Get Rid of Black Beard Algae (BBA) In Any Aquarium And/Or Plants & Hardscape

Let's face it.  All of us as aquatic hobbyists have to deal with black beard algae (commonly referred to as BBA) at one point or another.  Though it can look lush and like beautiful plush hair, at the end of the day it's more of a nuisance for us with aquariums.

People often ask us how to get rid of BBA.  We always recommend preventing it in the first place.  First off, ensure that your tank has enough circulation as this can create some areas in your tank to be stagnant.  And if you're fertilizing your tank, be sure to do at least a 20-40% water change weekly as the nutrient levels do build up and this will cause the algae to thrive.  CO2 fluctuations will also cause BBA to thrive.  Ensure you have your CO2 regulator set on a timer and once the tank taps out, replace it promptly.  Too much lighting for an extended period of time will also cause many algae to thrive, especially BBA.

One easy way to remove BBA is to jab at it manually and then using a pipette or syringe and spot treating it with either Hydrogen Peroxide or Seachem Excel.  This will disintegrate it when spot treated at the base and rid of it spores as well.

Watch the video below of Noah demonstrating how to rid the tank of BBA with a pipette and hydrogen peroxide that grows on the surfaces of your tank and/or hardscape.
