Ornate Bichir - Polypterus ornatipinnis
The Ornate Bichir is one of the most popular Bichirs in the fish keeping hobby! Known as one of the "prehistoric" fish, this fish has existed for many years and have the abiity to adapt and survive out of water for periods of time. Size is currently around 2" - 2.5" or so. - these modern day Dinosaurs are truly a sight to behold. Stunning body pattern and color make this one of the most kept Bichir around! Getting to a huge size of 24” they appreciate large tanks with wood. They are slow growing however and can be upgraded in tank size as they grow. It is thought that they first appeared around 60 million years ago!

The bichir arrived in great shape. Dripped him to the tune of 2 gallons, and dumped him in my 210. He immediately began questing around for something to eat. Looking forward to him cleaning up my marmokreb problem!!
