Amano Shrimp - Caridina multidentata

This shrimp is popular among many aquatic plant hobbyists as they are known for their amazing cleaning abilities.  Also known as the "Japanese Algae Eater," the Amano Shrimp was named after Takashi Amano after he introduced this amazing invert to the aquaria hobby!

This beautiful shrimp does a great job feeding off the surfaces of the tank and eating matter off plants.  They particularly love hanging around the foam cover of the filters, catching and eating the debris that gets caught around that area.

Size is about 1.25".

    Shrimp

They arrived today and are all over the tank. One hitched a ride on a Red Root Floater and hopped into filter chamber. After getting it out, it was back to chasing around the tank.

    Great cleaning crew but, Caution...

Posted by CAREY GOSA on 2nd Mar 2020

I love Amanos and have kept them for years. They are great for help keeping your aquarium clean of algae and left over food. However, be aware that Amano's can be aggressive with other shrimp. My Amano's killed all of my Fire, Blueberry and Sunkist shrimp...an expensive lesson to be sure.
